SURJ Altadena Pasadena educates and mobilizes white people in our community to end their support for racism and police violence. In partnership with BIPOC-led organizations, we take action for racial justice and support efforts to envision public safety without law enforcement intervention. We engage in this work with accountability to our community and our solidarity partners.

Our work
ORGANIZING WHITE PEOPLE
​TO END WHITE SUPREMACY
We believe that white people created white supremacy, so it is our responsibility to end it. We take a three-pronged approach to organizing white people for racial justice:
  • 1. We support personal transformation through antiracist political education and community building;
  • 2. We mobilize white people to take concrete action to oppose racial injustice in our neighborhoods and cities; and
  • 3. Following BIPOC leadership, we move toward new ways of imaging collective safety and belonging.       
CAMPAIGNS
SURJ Altadena partners with My Tribe Rise, Dena Rise Up, and other BIPOC orgs. We support the campaigns of SURJ National and the Movement for Black Lives, including defunding police, jails, prisons, and detention centers; paying reparations and organizing for economic justice; acknowledging and supporting indigenous sovereignty; and investing in BIPOC, LGBTQ+, and poor and working-class leadership.  Locally, we are currently working toward these goals by working towards a just and equitable recovery for all Altadeneans, especially our Black and Brown neighbors. We continue to press for accountability from the Pasadena City Council, the Pasadena Police Department, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department for the city's ongoing abuse of Black and Brown Pasadena and Altadena residents.
